ABOUT THE SAT
The SAT is a three plus hour paper-based test designed by the College Board and used in the college admissions process to determine the readiness of the student to attend college. The SAT is comprised of three sections: Math (calculator and non-calculator sections), Reading, and Writing. There is also an optional essay section that extends the test-taking time by 50 minutes.
The SAT is scored out of a total of 1600 points, which is calculated by adding the Reading/Writing and Math section scores together. The Reading/Writing and Math sections are each scored out of 800 points. A student is welcome to take the test as many times as they wish during their high school career. Most universities will only request the highest score during the college admissions process. Some universities will also allow students to submit the highest section scores from multiple tests as their SAT score (called superscoring).
For information regarding the SAT and its format, refer to the College Board site here.
