The Tutor Behind National Study Academy (NSA)
DIRECTOR JOHN KIM
John Kim is the director and founder of National Study Academy (NSA) since its beginnings in Ventura County in 2002.
Even back in high school, Mr. Kim showed his prowess for math. He received the Upper Classman Award (given to one per year for highest math honors) for Mathematics from Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, CA and obtained a perfect math score of 800 on the SAT without studying. He also received 1st place in the Orange County High School Math Bowl competition during his senior year. In college, Mr. Kim attended University of Washington, where he received a Bachelor's in Economics and managed to maintain a higher GPA than his high school GPA. It was due to his Study Habits & Skills learned on the job when he attended college. He then attended and graduated from Washington State University with a full scholarship and stipend to get his Master's in Financial Economics. |
After graduation, Mr. Kim worked at Microsoft for several years as a software analyst in Seattle, WA. After being recruited by QAD in Carpenteria, CA to work as a Software Engineer, he moved down to Ventura County area in 2000 with his family and then started the National Study Academy on August 15th of 2002.
Since then, Mr. Kim has become a successful entrepreneur and taught students from over one thousand families around the Ventura and Santa Barbara County. He has almost exclusively worked with high school students in mathematics and specializes in tutoring the SAT/ACT math portions for the past 20 years. With over 25 years of tutoring experience, Mr. Kim can help students with almost any high school math subject, from Foundational Math to Calculus BC.
